Holy crap, finally got the python backup method to work!
If you have not backed up your tumblr and you want to, try this. It's not as hard as it sounds, but I highly highly recommend watching the video on youtube that walks you through it because, for me, that's way easier to understand and I can see what everything's supposed to look like; also, the written instructions at one point say to type in a certain thing and that didn't work for me, and the video said "hey, you can leave that word out" and when I left it out, it WORKED.
It has some limitations, but it's the best option I've found so far that leaves you with files you can actually open and view with your web browser.
